character

Erich

Safe on Luna but stripped of Baltimore's map, Erich asks Amos to lead his displaced people and then accepts that he must build a future himself.

Story so far

Erich brings his people aboard the Zhang Guo out of Earth and into Luna's emergency dock system, but arrival makes his loss sharper rather than ending it. With fake identities, absent records, and Clarissa's fugitive status hidden in the ship, he reorganizes watches and weapons while Amos Burton negotiates with Avasarala's security.

Away from the immediate danger, Erich admits that Baltimore gave him a complete understanding of territory, crime, leverage, and survival, while space gives him none. He believes Amos's relationships and experience were the connective tissue of their escape, and offers to surrender leadership of the group if Amos will take it. Amos declines, leaving Erich relieved and disappointed but resolved to use his reserves to buy a small ship or relocate his people and make a new niche beyond the city that formed him.

Appearance

A middle-aged, well-fed man with a small withered left arm, a slight limp, and a guarded intelligent face; he is newly unsettled in low gravity and wears survival clothes inside the ornate Zhang Guo.

Role

Erich is a displaced Baltimore boss forced to discover whether he can protect his people without the city and power structure he understands.

Relationships

Amos Burton — Amos Burton is the old friend Erich trusts enough to offer command, even though Amos chooses the Rocinante family over Erich's organization.
Zhang Guo — Zhang Guo is Erich's temporary refuge, carrying his people into a social world where his old criminal expertise no longer maps cleanly.
Clarissa Mao — Clarissa Mao remains one of the vulnerable passengers Erich must conceal and protect as he seeks a new start.
