The Minotaur hunts Virginia through Bastion One and nearly becomes her prisoner, surviving a coordinated Lionguard ambush only because its tranquilizers fail and his troops break the trap.
Apollonius au Valii-Rath, the Minotaur, has brought his Venusian forces into the assault on Phobos and helped turn the Republic's Sector One defense into a retreat. He breaks Kavax au Telemanus's surface division, leaves the wounded giant alive as a prize, and begins to stalk Virginia au Augustus inside Bastion One rather than accept a remote victory.
Virginia's Lionguards exploit his hunger for the personal kill. They lure him toward a false escape route, cut down his vanguard with nanowire and concentrated rifle fire, and trap him under a shield dome. Virginia drives her razor through his left knee while the Lions pin his limbs; Holiday attempts to use a misericord to tranquilize him, but both tools fail. Even wounded through the cheek by a digger round and caught in an electrified net, Apollonius resists long enough for his men to throw a grenade beneath the dome. The blast breaks the ambush just as Virginia orders retreat, leaving the Minotaur injured but not secured.
A towering Gold in dark purple battle armor and a bull-headed helm, long dark-golden hair hidden by the helmet. His face is now badly wounded: a digger round has punched through his cheek, spilling blood and teeth, and his left knee bears Virginia's razor wound.
Apollonius is the Minotaur's personal terror inside Bastion One, a battlefield hunter whose refusal to die or be contained keeps Virginia's escape precarious.
