Story so far
When Thoth Station's gauss cannon shoots clean through the Rocinante, Amos Burton finds three port maneuvering thrusters losing water pressure. He leaves the relative safety of his crash couch and enters the narrow space between hulls to cut out the ruptured pipe and fit a replacement. Naomi Nagata fears he will be killed by the maneuvering; Amos agrees only that it is dangerous, arguing that Alex cannot turn to starboard at all if the line is not fixed.
A missile near-miss and violent evasive maneuvers slam him into a hull brace, likely breaking a rib. He survives because he straps himself down, refuses to spend time securing the replacement pipe, and finishes the repair before the next impact could turn the loose part into a deadly projectile. After the final cannon exchange he answers Holden's call with dark understatement: he is still there, and he would prefer not to repeat the experience. His work keeps the damaged gunship maneuverable long enough to defeat the fighters and cover the Guy Molinari's approach.
Appearance
Amos is an Earth-born, broad muscular man with shaved stubble and a blunt, physically imposing face. In battle he wears a sealed environment suit, works with a cutting torch in a tight hull crawlspace, and may have a newly injured rib.
Role
Amos is the engineer who accepts physical danger when a damaged system has to be fixed before the next maneuver, no matter what is firing at the ship.
Relationships
Rocinante — Amos Burton repairs the Rocinante's ruptured thruster plumbing under fire, preserving the maneuverability that keeps the ship alive.
Naomi Nagata — Naomi Nagata protests Amos's risk, but he explains that a safe retreat would leave the ship unable to turn when it needs to.
James Holden — Holden authorizes Amos to continue the emergency repair while making clear that another impact could make the situation worse.
