The Evidence Clips

the memory clips · the evidence · the diggers' logs · Wilken and Gerth's clip

The evidence of GrayCris's crimes, now mailed to Mensah's family on Preservation for safekeeping.

Story so far

The evidence clips—Milu diggers' logs of the strange synthetics GrayCris illegally mined, plus the damning work-history clip Murderbot recovered from Wilken and Gerth—were carried into book four hidden in Murderbot's forearm. Judging it stupid to take them into GrayCris territory, Murderbot removes them, wraps and seals them in a shipping parcel at a transit-hub kiosk, and mails them to all of Dr. Mensah's marital partners on their farm on Preservation, using shipping details left over in its old company's PreservationAux records. Murderbot dwells on the fact that the bot Miki died for this information, whether it knew it or not, and worries the data may no longer be as useful now that GoodNightLander Independent controls Milu—but the clips are now safely out of GrayCris's reach and en route home.

Appearance

Small memory clips rolled in protective wrapper and sealed in a shipping parcel addressed to Preservation.

Role

The evidence, now mailed to safety on Preservation rather than risked in enemy territory.

Relationships

Murderbot — Removed them from its arm and mailed them home rather than carry them into GrayCris's hub.
Dr. Mensah — The intended recipient; the parcel is addressed to her marital partners on Preservation.
MikiBk 3 — The bot that died protecting this information at Milu, a debt weighing on Murderbot.
