character

Bobby

Bobby is a miner and excavation worker who has reached the living world outside and now urges his companions to use its plentiful wood.

Story so far

Bobby helped expose and examine the buried digger, identifying its hydraulics and the empty engine space. He cautioned Juliette that the machine would be difficult to turn and that removing excavation waste would demand substantial labor, though he conceded that her wedge-steering proposal might work slowly. A friend of Raph, he said he was married; Fitz later said he had two children.

After the evacuation, Bobby brought Juliette water and reported refugees heading for the farms. He questioned Erik’s optimistic estimate for another tunnel and said his own people would have welcomed refugees. He later called for quiet during Juliette’s address. Outside, he and Fitz set down their oxygen bottle to stare at the world around them, and he tore open a glove to free his hand. Now he encourages Raph to burn a branch, arguing that the surrounding trees supply more wood than they could ever need.
