Silo Forty is a disconnected silo that Donald says remained standing; he suspects a quiet, bloodless revolution defeated its controls.
Anna Thurman said Silo Forty lost communications about a year earlier, its camera feeds disappearing gradually before contact with its heads ended. She suspected a rogue IT head had contacted surrounding silos without permission, and said Erskine authorized shutdown under The Order. Reports attributed a system hack to Forty, and its failsafes had been severed before the cameras went dark. Attempts to terminate it appeared unsuccessful as other silos also disappeared from view.
Anna later said Forty had hacked the master system and cut several facilities off from Silo One. Donald associated the trouble with a bomb that shook dust from overhead pipes, while the ranking report listed Forty as N/A. Paul Thurman believed it had already been dealt with before Donald’s shift. Donald instead suspected that its inhabitants first disabled the demolition bombs, disabled the gas lines, and manipulated the camera feeds to conceal events inside before cutting those feeds.
Donald now says Forty remained standing despite Anna’s claim that it had been destroyed. He suspects a quiet, bloodless revolution, but the nature of that revolution remains his interpretation rather than a witnessed account.
A disconnected silo associated with a reported hack that cut several facilities off from Silo One. Its apparent defeat of termination measures challenges the controllers’ account of its destruction.
