Solo's Paper Parachutes

Solo’s paper parachutes were weighted with metal washers; Jimmy now finds those small anchors among the flood debris.

Story so far

Solo makes parachutes from folded paper, strings, and small metal washers, doubling the paper around the string holes to prevent tearing. A released parachute initially plummets, then bobs downward when its strings tighten. The last one he releases narrowly misses the ninth-level landing before disappearing from view.

Later, Jimmy finds the little metal washers that anchored his parachutes among the debris left by the flood.

Appearance

The parachutes consist of folded paper connected by strings to small metal washers. The paper is doubled over around the holes where the strings attach.

Role

These handmade objects descend through the silo on paper canopies. Their recovered washers connect the flood debris with Solo’s earlier activity.
