Remex

Remex the Grand · Soul Leech Capacitor · Bereft Minion of Miss Quill · a tenner

The pitiable undead husband of Miss Quill — a resurrected dark cleric turned living battery for her genocidal spell.

Story so far

Braced to fight a lich in the swordsmen's warehouse, Carl and Princess-Donut instead find Remex: a level-1 'Soul Leech Capacitor,' a zombified featherless Skyfowl with black swirling eyes and ethereal worm-wings, cowering and begging not to be blown up. His properties reveal the horror — a Bereft Minion, a resurrected soul yanked back by a Necromancer/Dark Cleric spell and forever tethered to the caster's most-loved. Remex was the settlement's magistrate before Featherfall; after he died, his widow Miss-Quill helped Featherfall cast the resurrection spell too near the swordsmen's Amplifier, killing Featherfall by feedback and leaving Remex as Quill's capacitor, leeching mana from every death and the town's soul crystal.

Rambling and desperate to 'tell the story' so he can finally be done, he explains Quill — a granddaughter of the royal family — used him to power The-Final-War, a spell to reclaim the Over City for the flyers by slaughtering everyone else. With Quill dead, the pent-up energy has nowhere to go, and Remex knows the sunrise will bring 'the release.' He weeps for his lost son, murmuring 'I'm coming, son,' as the doomsday energy builds inside him.

Appearance

A zombified, featherless Skyfowl — emaciated gray body, cracked beak, black swirling orb-eyes, hazy black smoke rising off him, ethereal worm-like wisps where his wings once were; tethered to a floating amber gem by a thread of golden light.

Role

A tragic undead 'battery' and unwilling engine of Miss Quill's atrocity — a former crawler who only wants his story told and to rest.

Relationships

Miss Quill — His widow, who deliberately married and resurrected him to make him her soul-power capacitor.
Magistrate Featherfall — His successor as magistrate, killed by the resurrection spell's feedback and mummified into a dark fetish.
The Final War — The genocidal heirloom spell his stored soul-power was meant to fuel.
Carl — Extracts the whole conspiracy from him before the pent-up energy misfires into a city-killing blast.
