Station 75

the interdiction depot

A looted hobgoblin depot whose small rail yard holds six portals, sixty carts, and the key to the abyss.

Story so far

Station 75's real value turns out to be its yard. Both the Gnoll Armory and the Hobgoblin Repair Shop have already been stripped by whoever came through before the party, leaving empty hob-lobber crates, bare tool shelves, spear racks and forty armour mannequins — all of which Carl pockets, along with a Repair Bench the looters were careless enough to leave behind. Off the tracks sits a small parking yard with rows of rail carts and six portals standing at its far end. Five are track-mounted and flush to the wall, one-way only; the sixth is a walk-through on a landing that leads onward into the platform-hopping portal maze Carl found at station sixty and is glad not to need.

The five track portals are the reason the station matters. The first is a plain one-way route to Trainyard C, which Carl's screenshot shows as a burned-out ruin patrolled by two ogre-sized wrath ghouls. The other four are Ultima Corp DungeonWerx industrial selectable portals, each posting a numbered list of forty-eight colours from Orange to Amaranth to Pink to Zomp, dialled by a DungeonWerx Portal Selector; Gary's estimate that the station services over a hundred lines proves conservative, and the party ends up choosing from a list of nearly two hundred. The carts come in three types: unpowered flatbed trailers too heavy for even Carl or Katia Grim to inventory, the common battery-or-third-rail Interdiction Auxiliary Railway Repair Cart, and ten never-used rapid-response carts shoved into the back. Clearing the yard becomes the party's project — small carts shoved onto the main line ahead of their Vermillion engine, auxiliaries driven aside on their last percent of charge, every battery pulled, one engine dismantled entirely into Carl's inventory.

Appearance

A vast industrial cavern of doorless warehouses and open workshops, corpse-strewn and blast-scarred, with a small rail yard of parked carts and six portals at its end.

Role

The party's layover base and staging yard, where the abyss rescue plan is built out of looted carts, portals and batteries.

Relationships

The Downward Dog — The station's bar, and the source of the tip that sent Carl to the cart yard.
Interdiction Rapid-Response Railway Repair Cart — Ten of them sit unused at the back of its yard, the whole plan's engine.
Trainyard C — The destination of the yard's first, unselectable portal.
Ultima Corp DungeonWerx — Four of the yard's five track portals are its industrial selectable models.
