Story so far
Carl offers the black-comic version of the floor's economy: some of these guys we have had to kill three times — once when they hit the stage-three DTs, again as Krakaren Juvenile Clonelings, and again if they turn into ghouls. Imani C corrects him. It is a lot more than that, because the stage-three monsters were each birthing thousands of the octopuses.
Neither of them can settle whether the plural is octopuses or octopi.
Role
The withdrawal-mutated mobs that seeded the floor's swarm.

Chapter 51
- The daily announcement makes the tentacled terminal-stage horrors faster — which Carl finds simply terrifying.
Chapter 53
- Whatever they used to be, they end the same: hippo-sized, tentacled, ringed with teeth — and they do not die, they hatch.
Chapter 54
- Seven hours of Mindaro track and the only monsters left are the burst husks of the ones that already hatched.
Chapter 57
- Each one was birthing thousands of octopuses, which makes the whole floor's kill count a joke.
