The Plenty

the caprid race

A goat-like race that invented real-time galactic communication, and got cast as drug dealers for it.

Story so far

Mordecai identifies the Pooka of this floor as the dungeon's stand-in for the Plenty, a caprid race who look like goats. The Plenty invented the modern tunneling system, which has only existed a few hundred seasons but allows near-universal real-time communication. The technology is proprietary and nobody knows how it works, which has produced a conspiracy theory that it runs on Krakaren technology and is a scheme to fold everyone into the Krakaren collective.

Mordecai's assessment is that the Plenty are responsible for enormous prosperity. Before the tunneling system everything had to be filtered through the wormholes, and the crawl — which drew just as many viewers in his own season — reached most of the universe on delay, anything from an hour to a year depending on where you lived. Only the centre system got it live. Real-time following and favouriting of crawlers from the outer systems is recent, and the breakthrough changed everything. It also obsoleted the communications relays Borant Corporation had a stake in, which is where the resentment comes from.

Role

The caprid race behind the tunneling system, and Borant's chosen villain.

Relationships

Pooka — The dungeon's caricature of them.
The Tunneling System — Invented it.
Borant Corporation — Lost its communications-relay business to their technology, and campaigns against them.
