Carl and Donut's NPC mentor, now a strikingly handsome Incubus — and tricked into becoming their permanent manager.

Story so far

Mordecai is Carl and Princess Donut's NPC mentor and tutorial guildmaster, a level-50 Changeling Non-Combatant NPC serving the Borant Corporation on his last tour. Arriving on the Over City, he took an Incubus form — dusky-gray skin, devil horns, bat wings, and a barbed tail — and, after three hours stuck in formal wear, tore off the tuxedo in relief. He walked Donut through race and class selection, only to be blindsided when she took the Former Child Actor class instead of the Artist Alley Mogul he recommended, saddling him with the Manager Benefit: he must now teleport to any saferoom the party occupies, losing his cushy magic-guild posting, his codex access, and his television.

Furious, he still resigned himself to it, congratulating Donut as a level-13 Former Child Actor. His painful, unexplained history with Odette surfaced again when Carl relayed her wish to explain herself.

Appearance

In his Incubus form: a well-built, disgustingly handsome man of Carl's height with dusky-gray skin, a short pair of devil horns, long gray-and-black hair in a ponytail, a barbed tail, and black bat-like wings folded against his back; a deeper, seductive voice.

Role

The party's manager, alchemist, and strategist; the single greatest information resource a crawler can have.

Relationships

Carl — His crawler and near-friend, whom he does not yet know engineered the Manager Benefit trick; he would never forgive Carl if he learned the truth.
Princess Donut — He sees her as a child and forgives her the trick even while cursing it; the class change binds him to the party.
Odette — His old trainer, whom he despises; she pushed him too hard long ago and 'he paid dearly for it,' a wound he won't discuss.
