Souther

Victorious and lag-free at Avasarala's side, Souther processes the rescued children, tracks the 171 harmless monster packages, and parts as her ally.

Story so far

In the aftermath, Souther — now openly Avasarala's ally and effective fleet commander — takes stock with her: both fleets are years from recovery after heavy damage, and he warns that if everyone limps back to their corners the rift will harden. His medical officers are processing the rescued children, coordinating pediatric immune specialists to reunite them with their parents. The fleet holds transponder locks on 171 monster 'packages' speeding sunward without accelerating or evading — close enough that letting them fall into the sun makes disposal trivial, though still weeks out.

He gently wishes Avasarala would ride home on one of his ships rather than the Rocinante, but accepts her symbolic choice, and parts warmly: 'I'll see you back down the well.' A principled officer poised to matter in the peace that follows.

Appearance

A UN admiral who looks younger in low gravity, skin unsagging; warm and measured over the lag-free link.

Role

Victorious UN admiral and Avasarala's ally, managing the rescued children and the harmless monster swarm.

Relationships

Avasarala — The strategist he now openly allies with, debriefing her and wishing her a safe ride home.
Nguyen — The hawk he superseded, whose loosed monsters his fleet now tracks to disposal.
Ganymede monster — The 171 packages his fleet tracks as they drift harmlessly toward the sun.
