Battle of Titan

Titan diversion

A costly coalition diversion at Titan draws Free Navy forces aside for the Medina strike but leaves Pa's fleet broken and unable to stop Marco's counterattack.

Story so far

The battle at Titan is one of the coordinated attacks intended to keep Marco Inaros from recognizing the real target: the Medina Station rail guns. Nine coalition ships, led in the initial engagement by Martian forces, confront fifteen Free Navy vessels. Michio Pa's Connaught and the Serrio Mal approach from an unexpected angle and fire into the enemy formation, seeking to scatter its defenses and create openings rather than hold territory.

The coalition disables two enemy ships, but the Connaught takes a torpedo through its defenses. Its drive is destroyed, Pa is badly burned, and Oksana and Evans die; Laura is left in a medical coma. The distraction succeeds long enough for the Medina operation to seize the station, but its survivors are scattered or crippled around Saturn. When Marco gathers his remaining ships to retake the now-undefended slow zone, the Titan force has no credible way to catch or delay him.

Appearance

A chaotic Saturnian-space engagement under Titan's orange atmospheric haze, with damaged ships, torpedo fire, scattered debris, and the distant mass of Saturn beyond the moon.

Role

The battle is the sacrifice that buys the Medina capture its opening while demonstrating how little force remains to protect the victory afterward.

Relationships

[[Michio Pa]] — Her command accepts the diversion's risk and bears its most intimate losses.
