Abdel Rahman Badawi

Abbey

A patched Luna-operated colony freighter carries Anna's family and hundreds of settlers, supplies, and institutions-in-waiting toward the growing world of Eudoxia.

Story so far

Officially operated by Trachtman Corporation out of Luna, the Abdel Rahman Badawi is a colony transport whose salvaged and added sections make its history visible in hallways of mismatched shapes. Its passengers call it the Abbey. It runs at a conserving tenth of a g, with recycler-scented air, cramped cabins, shared facilities, ship tutorials, informal music, philosophical meetings, and the dense social life of people preparing to become a permanent settlement.

The Abbey carries shelters, food recyclers, two small fusion reactors, and biological and agricultural materials for Eudoxia, as well as colonists including Anna, Nono, Nami, bereaved children, teachers, musicians, and prospective civic builders. Its cargo decks are cathedral-high and packed with the material basis for a population that will raise Eudoxia's inhabitants from roughly a thousand to roughly three thousand. The yearlong transit is not merely transport: the habits, friendships, arguments, and care formed aboard will become part of the future colony's social foundation.

Appearance

A patched low-gravity colony freighter with differently shaped salvaged corridors, new-plastic recycler air, cathedral-high cargo decks, tiny family cabins, shared galleys and lavatories, and a long-lived tenth-g thrust.

Role

The Abbey is the transitional home where a displaced Earth community begins becoming the first durable human society on Eudoxia.
