Proteus

A Laconian-built ship that reaches Medina with military advisers, presenting a polite offer of support that unsettles the station's workers.

Story so far

The Proteus is the first ship to arrive at Medina Station through the Laconia Ring without previously departing through it. It coasts in with its Epstein drive kept quiet enough to invite rumors about its signature, then docks at Medina's engineering decks carrying Captain Montemayor and six advisers.

The delegation says Winston Duarte has sent it to support Medina's own ability to handle instability in Sol and construct a security base. Its understated Martian professionalism does not reassure everyone: workers see the ship's arrival as possible help, a Free Navy request for resources, or the opening move in Laconia's control of the rail guns.

Appearance

A newly built ship from beyond the Laconia Ring, approaching Medina on quiet maneuvering thrusters and docking at functional engineering locks; its precise hull configuration remains undescribed.

Role

The Proteus is the visible first instrument of Laconia's deeper involvement in the Free Navy's Ring-space stronghold.

Relationships

[[Medina Station]] — It delivers advisers and security assistance into the station's uncertain command environment.
[[Winston Duarte]] — It acts under Duarte's stated authority and assurances of support.
