The dead installation where Murderbot uncovers that outside malware, not its choice, caused the massacre.
Murderbot finally reaches Ganaka Pit, a sealed, radiation- and toxin-marked ruin at the end of RaviHyral's rerouted tunnels, its power dead and its central hub scattered with debris. Powering consoles from its own weapon, it recovers data SecSystem stashed in MedSystem storage and reconstructs the disaster. A disguised malware, downloaded as a supposed third-party patch for the installation's ComfortUnits and intended only to sabotage a rival by shutting down the hauler bots so their shipment shipped first, was applied over the ComfortUnits' objections.
It jumped through their feeds into SecSystem, which infected the SecUnits, bots, and drones, and everything capable of motion lost its mind. The fifty-seven deaths were an unintended consequence of sabotage, not a mass-murder plot. The pit's four ComfortUnits, unarmed and un-ordered, voluntarily fought and died trying to decoy the maddened units, protect the humans, and reset SecSystem.
Afterward the affair was quietly settled and the site erased. Ten SecUnit cubicles and four smaller ComfortUnit cubicles still stand among the burn scars.
A large dark domed installation, power dead, walls streaked with failing emergency markers, littered with debris, tools, and abandoned cubicles amid firefight scars.
The revealed scene of the massacre and the emotional heart of the mystery, where blame shifts from Murderbot to unknown saboteurs.
