character

Jules Pierre Mao

Jules-Pierre Mao · Father · Daddy

The imprisoned Mao-Kwikowski patriarch remains the object of Clarissa's devotion and the moral center of her distorted revenge.

Story so far

Jules-Pierre Mao led Mao-Kwikowski Mercantile, whose resources supported the protomolecule program that devastated Eros and nearly weaponized abducted children. After the conspiracy was exposed, he was captured, his corporation nationalized, and his family shattered. He now sits in an anonymous prison, allowed contact only with his lawyer and condemned to live out his life in disgrace.

Before losing power, Jules-Pierre hid enough wealth to provide for his wife and children. His daughter Clarissa Mao remembers arranging her life around his approval—abandoning tai chi after a casual joke—and now uses that remaining money to create a false identity and reach The Ring. She sees punishment of the Mao family as persecution and intends to destroy James Holden in order to vindicate her father.
