Tara

the angry marine · the short-haired marine

A short-haired UN marine from Anna's shipboard congregation dies in the catastrophe, taking with her every conversation Anna hoped they might have.

Story so far

Tara is a Thomas Prince marine with short blond hair who joined the small congregation formed around Anna Volovodov. Anna remembers her especially through anger that seemed to conceal a deeper source the pastor hoped one day to understand. In imagination Anna had already begun future conversations, questions, and the satisfaction of watching Tara open herself to care.

Chris Williams tells Anna that Tara died in the Slow Zone Catastrophe. The death abruptly erases that imagined future. Tara becomes the congregant whose loss tests Anna's refusal to label the alien station evil solely because it hurt them: the argument now has to survive grief for a particular person, not merely compassion for unnamed casualties.

Appearance

Tara was a young UN marine with short blond hair. Her build, complexion, facial details, and usual uniform are not otherwise described.

Role

Tara is a dead member of Anna's improvised congregation whose unrealized future makes the catastrophe intimate and morally difficult.
