Sam's crew hollows out an industrial lifter around a medical brace, giving the paralyzed Bull heavy, awkward freedom to walk the Behemoth again.
Samara Rosenberg and Behemoth technicians convert a standard lifting mech for Carlos “Bull” de Baca. They carve away belly reinforcement to install a thoracolumbosacral orthosis, replace leg actuation with a hand joystick, and strap Bull's insensible legs along the machine's struts so they move when the mech moves. The device cannot restore abdominal control, dancing, comfort, or independent toileting, but it can go anywhere aboard the ship whether or not the route was designed for disability.
The machine lifts Bull from bed and carries him into the general and restricted wards. Its first journey lets him see Earth, Mars, and Belt patients as one population, speak to the recovering Rocinante crew, and resume command beyond a terminal screen. What begins as a crew gift immediately changes the range of his authority and returns a measure of physical agency without disguising the permanence of his injury.
The mech is a thick, blocky industrial lifter with much of its abdominal reinforcement cut away. A medical torso brace, leg straps, support plates, and a simple hand joystick hold and move its passenger.
The modified lifter is Bull's improvised mobility aid and the mechanical body through which he resumes moving command after paralysis.
