Legacy

The Legacy preserves knowledge of the past alongside instructions and mementos for future silo leaders; access remains restricted to Lukas and Bernard.

Story so far

Bernard Holland calls the hidden material he shows Lukas their Legacy. Solo describes the thick reference books as a backup beyond the servers; one contains pictures of animals called butterflies. The collection has shown Lukas that other parts of the world had substantial buildings and could have prepared for disaster.

Access to the books is restricted to Lukas and Bernard. Bernard considers them worthless if nobody survives to read them, and Lukas names Life and Legacy as what he must protect above all. Bernard cites their account of rulers having burial-chamber builders killed to preserve secret locations. Handwritten additions also leave future silo leaders notes, instructions, manuals, and mementos.
