A kitchen knife taken in the neighboring silo has become Juliette’s essential tool for escape, underwater survival, and personal security.
Story so far
Juliette takes the knife from a rack in the neighboring silo’s kitchen. She uses it to cut herself free of her cleaning suit, prop doors open, and turn a tablecloth into clothing. When it disappears outside the dirt farm, its broad handle makes an accidental fall through the grating seem unlikely; she later realizes the fleeing person has it.
For her dive, she keeps the café knife in a thick belly pocket and homemade sheath. It extends her reach to release the weights on her legs and lets her pry off her helmet underwater. After surfacing, she cuts through the suit’s Velcro and strikes the knife against the compressor’s heat exchanger to ignite fuel. What began as a cooking utensil has become an indispensable source of security, and she still carries it.
