Solo’s room

Solo’s room is a hidden refuge beneath the servers, where Juliette wakes before preparing to leave.

Story so far

Solo’s living space occupies a hidden part of level thirty-five that cannot be reached directly from the stairwell. Access runs beneath the server-room floor through a sliding metal grate. He sleeps on a mattress on the floor, with shelves of water jugs, canned food and other containers serving as a makeshift kitchen; metal canisters fill shelves opposite. He says the hidden rooms were designed to sustain occupants for ten years.

A neighboring room contains a large, foul-smelling pile of empty food cans. The radio below the servers communicates only with the neighboring silo’s portable radios and is enclosed in a steel cage for which Solo says he has never found a key. Juliette later wakes on the floor beside his desk here.
