The silo’s worn steel staircase connects its daily life and now carries Juliette toward a family visit after the fighting.
The spiral staircase has carried generations of residents and ends at the cafeteria and adjoining lounge. After a cleaning, crowds climbed it to see the newly cleared view outside; during the power holiday, emergency lighting washed the steps in dim green light.
The recent conflict turned this shared route into a path of flight and retreat. Residents climbed toward working facilities during blackouts, while retreating fighters left blood on the stairs and an explosion followed gunfire near a wounded man holding a bomb. Its railing still exposes centuries of differently colored paint beneath the chips. Now Juliette begins climbing it to visit her father.
Steel treads and a worn railing form the spiral staircase. Rust can fall from the treads; chipped railing paint exposes layers of different colors.
The staircase is a shared route through the silo, used for ordinary travel, evacuation, and movement during the fighting.
