Alpert is named by Griffin as the place where Meeps has been surviving as a street artist after getting out of the dungeon. The passing detail fills in what life looks like for former crawlers in the wider galaxy — the same picture Carl finds so unsettling in this chapter, as he realizes the general citizenry of the Syndicate live lives uncomfortably similar to human ones despite their alien anatomies, cultures, and environments.
