Mistress Henspar

Henspar

Volteeg's pre-dungeon owner who loved and hid her pet bird, and died on the seventh floor.

Story so far

Before the collapse of her world, Mistress Henspar kept Volteeg as a caged Sturnus companion, cleaning his cage, letting him perch on her shoulder at market, and turning up the hearth fire just how he liked it. When Volteeg bit a shopkeeper's finger over a berry, she forgave him, told him it wasn't his fault, and thereafter smuggled him into the shop hidden under her jacket, whispering that it would be their little secret and slipping stolen berries up to him. Volteeg sang for her afterward, and she wept salty tears.

She was pulled into the dungeon with him and died on the seventh floor, killed by Scags while a transformed, screaming Volteeg stood over her body unable to save her — the moment that convinced him he had never deserved her affection. Her death converted his fear into the rage that drove the rest of his life, and her name is the last thing he speaks before detonating his Weeper Tank in the middle of the Bloc force.
