The tenodera hive that entered the dungeon with York and was picked off one by one, then destroyed by the Syndicate.
York's entire hive entered the dungeon together. He vaguely recalls the anger he felt as they were picked off one by one, and the harder realization that he had never really fit in: because of his own individuality he was never part of a team despite being part of a hive, and alone his flailings against the bureaucratic alien machines that subjugated them were impotent.
Before the crawl, the Syndicate came and killed them all. He composes three-beats about the hive from before it was ripped away, broadcasting them over open bands, and it is the loss he is trying to reach whenever he insists that the correct verse could raise that which was lost. The stronger he grew as a crawler, the weaker he felt; the weaker he felt, the angrier he became — until, around the ninth floor, the Tenodera numbness took him instead.
The lost family whose destruction shaped York into a hollow poet and eventual soldier.
