character

Mordecai

Mordecai is revealed as the crawler Odette pushed through a rigged eleventh-floor deal, losing his brother and then enduring an extended NPC contract.

Story so far

Odette became Mordecai's manager because his devotion to his older brother reminded her of her dead cousin Pieter. Near the end of her own contract, she promised to help Mordecai escape but became obsessed with reaching her release and bonus.

She made an illegal arrangement with Huanxin to rig the crawl, then broke it by trapping Dodola for Chaco to kill. Mordecai reached the next floor, but his brother Uzzi died. He eventually took an exit deal at the end of the eleventh floor.

A later change separated NPC pools by organization and greatly extended indentureship contracts. Odette has watched Mordecai drink, grieve, and live without family for centuries, blaming herself for breaking him.

Mordecai currently tells Carl to obey Huanxin because he fears her. Odette has established a large trust meant to ease his eventual transition into freedom.

Appearance

A younger crawler looking up to his brother, overlaid with the older dungeon manager drinking alone across centuries.
