AI Failsafe

Macro AI Failsafe

An unspecified emergency measure experienced NPCs expect operators to use when a crawl AI becomes uncontrollable.

Story so far

Orren says AI independence and control circumvention happen regularly, presenting liaison negotiation as the standard response. Mistress Tiatha adds that such breakdowns usually wait until the Ascendency Battles or a nearly exhausted crawler population.

Because Earth has reached the crisis before the ninth floor, Tiatha predicts the operators will invoke a failsafe. Neither its trigger nor effect is explained, but her certainty and Mordecai's reaction make it a serious looming threat rather than casual speculation.

Appearance

A sealed red lever behind warning glass on an alien planetary control console.

Role

The failsafe represents the unknown extreme response available when negotiation no longer contains a Macro AI.

Relationships

Mistress Tiatha — She predicts this crawl will trigger it.
System AI — Its unusually early autonomy crisis creates the expected need.
Orren — His successful settlement may only delay the stronger measure.
Ascendency Battles — Past control failures commonly emerge around this stage.
