Marked for Death

A crawler-killer skill that marks a full-health crawler for a permanent stat gain on their death — but blocks all healing until they die.

Story so far

Marked for Death is one of the dungeon's most infamous skills, imparted by the Night Wyrm's Ring of Divine Suffering that Frank Q hands Carl on The Iron Tangle. The wielder can mark any crawler at 100% health; after a 30-second set (instant on floor six), the marked crawler's death — by any cause — grants a permanent +1 to their highest stat, scaling up per three kills. The terrible catch: once a mark is set, the marker cannot heal at all, suffering every injury and pain until the prey dies, so a mark that escapes is a death sentence.

Cooldowns and mark-limits vary by floor (five hours here on floor four; none, and instant, on floor six; up to unlimited simultaneous marks on floor nine). It is the mechanic behind the whole Frank-and-Maggie tragedy: Yvette marked Carl, and after the ambush failed Maggie My could not heal her own blast wounds while Carl lived — so she killed her marked-linked daughter to end the agony.

Appearance

An interface skill: a selectable list of full-health crawlers, a 30-second mark timer, and a healing-lockout status while a mark is live.

Role

The Night Wyrm's Ring's core skill — the murderous, self-punishing mechanic at the heart of the Frank/Maggie/Yvette tragedy.

Relationships

Night Wyrm's RingBk 2 — The ring that grants this skill.
Maggie My — Her healing-lockout on this skill drove her to kill her own daughter.
Carl — Inherits the skill with the ring but has no wish to become a murderhobo.
