Teresa

Vampa's beautiful, vain shepherdess sweetheart, who follows him from the pastures into the bandit life.

Story so far

Teresa is an orphan shepherdess of the Sabine hills, raised alongside Luigi Vampa tending neighboring flocks, and grown into the most beautiful and best-dressed peasant girl near Rome—lively, gay, and coquettish to excess, adorned with the trinkets Vampa's carvings buy her. At the San-Felice masked ball she dances with a young nobleman and pines aloud for a countess's costume, rousing Vampa to jealousy and to the desperate act of burning the villa to steal her one. When Vampa dons the slain Cucumetto's clothes and declares himself a bandit captain, Teresa, dazzled and devoted, agrees to share his fortune and follow him 'to the world's end' into the outlaw life.
