Nullian

the Null · null

Short gray alien race resembling Area-51 caricatures, rare in the galaxy and widely shut out of decent employment.

Story so far

Carl recognized Quasar's species from descriptions in the cookbook: a Nullian, though they are mostly just called "the Null." They are close kin to the much taller Forsoothed but stand only about four and a half feet, with gray skin, huge eyes and bulbous heads — exactly the stereotypical cartoon alien of Earth folklore. Carl had glimpsed one or two in talk show audiences, but they seem rare.

Where the Forsoothed speak in a halting soothe, nulls talk in a gritty, rapid-fire New York cadence that Carl finds even more unnerving. Quasar says few outfits hire his kind, which is why he scrabbles for scraps representing condemned crawlers, and that nulls are a famously paranoid people — almost as paranoid as humans.

Appearance

Roughly four and a half feet tall, gray-skinned, with a bulbous head and large black eyes; a smaller cousin of the Forsoothed.

Role

Marginalized alien race that supplies advocates like Quasar.

Relationships

Quasar — The best-known null in Carl's life.
