Game Liaison

Liaison · liaison action

A liaison is chosen both for devotion to dungeon continuity and principled opposition to the host nation's goals, but the independence can become corruption or fanaticism.

Story so far

Orren compares liaisons to frontier sheriffs. They interpret rules, keep production systems operating, and resist national or corporate goals that conflict with the game's claimed spirit. A crucial unofficial hiring condition is fundamental disagreement with the candidate's own nation.

Different liaisons apply different tactics and philosophies. Some perform the balancing role responsibly; others oppose their government so intensely that they exceed their mandate or assist factions in killing crawlers. Carl connects the warning to the caprid liaison who appeared to cooperate with the Skull Empire against Chris and his party.

Appearance

An interstellar official operating an in-game office and exercising independent rule authority.

Role

The role explains both Orren's unusual help and the threat posed by other officials with the same discretion.

Relationships

Orren — He explains and embodies the role.
The Valtay — His opposition to their philosophy helps qualify him.
The Skull Empire — A caprid liaison may have abused the role on their behalf.
