Story so far
The charm gets its close inspection at the Security Checkpoint, where one of the Shade Gnoll Riot Forces guards bends over Princess Donut, takes hold of the collar charm and examines it closely as part of the search. Donut supplies the commentary without being asked: it used to be a butterfly, but now it is this ugly thing, and she knows it is ghastly.
The gnoll lets it go and stands, satisfied, declaring both crawlers clear. Whatever the charm is now, it does not register as contraband.
