Jupiter

Proctor Jupiter

The titanic king-god Proctor and the Jackal's other guard-dog, a decadent tyrant felled only when Sevro hamstrings him invisibly.

Story so far

Jupiter is the most powerful of the Proctors and, with the dead Apollo, the Jackal's chief guard-dog — a titan of a man in full golden armor who storms Olympus's halls laughing as simple swords ping off his plate, scattering Darrow's soldiers like boulders through grain. In a brutal running duel he cuts Darrow's thigh and eyelid and loops his razor to shear off his leg; the two crash through a window and tumble a hundred feet down the snowbound slope toward the mile-high drop. On the mountainside he sneers that Darrow does not know his place, that everything has an order, and that the ArchGovernor's Crows and Obsidians will come and destroy him.

Darrow answers by throwing down his weapons — "So I'll cheat" — and the invisible Sevro slithers Jupiter's own razor up through his hamstrings and arms, taking his weapons. Beaten and disarmed, the decadent tyrant is dragged back up to captivity, exposed before the watching Drafters as a bribed cheat.
