Savage Landing

A scheduled Castila freighter narrowly avoids a catastrophic gate overlap when an unidentified ship cuts across its transit window.

Story so far

The Savage Landing is an old but serviceable light freighter of Martian design operating out of Castila. As it approaches Medina Station, traffic control receives its status and initially clears it to transit. An unexpected drive signature then enters the Slow Zone from Freehold, forcing controllers to abort the Savage Landing at the last instant.

The freighter peels away under a punishing burn while the unauthorized ship escapes through the Auberon gate. The safety curve comes close to the threshold at which one or both vessels might have vanished, and the Savage Landing must wait to be rescheduled with dozens of other delayed ships.

Appearance

A light freighter built to an older Martian design, still operational rather than antiquated, seen through its transmitted ship status and the hard drive burn of its emergency abort.

Role

The Savage Landing is the innocent scheduled vessel whose near loss turns Freehold's habitual violations into a political crisis.

Relationships

Medina Station — Medina Station clears, then urgently aborts, the freighter's planned gate transit.
Slow Zone — The Slow Zone's rising safety curve makes the freighter's overlap with an unauthorized ship potentially fatal.
