Laconian Orbital Platform

Orbital construction platform · Alien orbital platform

A vast alien structure above Laconia offers the isolated colony a shipyard and technological inheritance beyond human engineering.

Story so far

The Laconian orbital platform hangs above Laconia, its immense rigging faintly visible even from the planet's surface. Its long arms and open spaces resemble a gigantic molecular structure. It is part of the dead gate builders' surviving infrastructure, accessible only because the Protomolecule can sometimes communicate with related alien systems.

The platform's presence helps explain why Winston Duarte chose this system and why Paolo Cortazár's work is central to the state's ambitions: Laconia is not merely a colony but the custodian of a functioning alien construction complex.

Appearance

A massive skeletal structure in orbit, made of tremendously long arms separated by empty spaces, faintly visible through the planet's blue daytime sky like an enormous molecular lattice.

Role

The platform is Laconia's most imposing alien asset and the physical foundation for its future construction ambitions.

Relationships

Laconia — Laconia developed beneath the platform and organizes much of its science around exploiting alien infrastructure.
Protomolecule — The Protomolecule provides an imperfect means of interfacing with technology like the platform.
Paolo Cortazár — Paolo Cortazár supplies the active samples and research that make alien systems usable.
