A heavily secured safe removed from the Anubis, carrying unrevealed Protogen materials that the Rocinante crew retains after exposing the Eros project.
The locked safe was removed intact from the captain's quarters of the stealth ship now identified as the Anubis. Naomi Nagata could not bypass its magnetic-pattern lock safely, and James Holden chose to cut it free rather than risk a booby trap or contaminate the crew. It was carried aboard the Rocinante before the Anubis was destroyed.
The capture of Thoth Station confirms the safe belonged to a Protogen vessel central to the Eros operation, making its potential contents more consequential rather than less. Dresden's account ties the Anubis directly to the lost infectious material and the later recovery of Julie's infected body, but does not reveal what the safe holds. Holden has retained it rather than surrender it to Fred, Mars, or the OPA. The object remains a sealed concentration of leverage and danger: it may contain samples, research, or evidence powerful enough to reshape the contest over the Protomolecule, but opening it is still unresolved.
The safe is a large, black, solidly built wall unit with a specialized magnetic-pattern lock, removed with a broad section of Anubis bulkhead and strapped down in the Rocinante's operations deck.
The safe is the Rocinante crew's unopened physical claim on the Anubis evidence, protected precisely because no faction has earned the right to control it.
