character

Kieran

Kieran of Lykos

Darrow's optimistic, rail-thin brother and the Howlers' engineering chief, kept clear of the fighting to come.

Story so far

Kieran is Darrow's older brother, a rail-thin, freckled, terminally optimistic Red who has served five years as the head of the Howlers' engineering department and is father to the headstrong young lancer Rhonna. He hides with the pack on Baffin Island during the Deepgrave raid, readying their stolen frigate the Nessus, and greets Darrow warmly—unsettled by the mutilated Tongueless and the captive Apollonius. Loving but plain-spoken, he swallows his fear to tell his brother that he does not want his daughter carried into the danger ahead; Darrow agrees, and orders Kieran himself home too—'you're not meant for a firefight,' and Darrow will not watch him die.

He departs south for New Sparta with the support Howlers as Darrow sails for Venus.

Appearance

A skinny, rail-thin Red man in his mid-thirties, freckled, with a tangle of red hair, grease-stained hands, and (today) the smell of chlorine from the ship's pool.

Role

Darrow's brother and the Howlers' engineering chief; a gentle non-combatant kept safely clear of the war ahead.

Relationships

Darrow — His younger brother the Reaper, who orders him and his daughter home rather than into the fighting.
Rhonna — His fierce daughter, whom he asks Darrow to keep out of harm's way.
Howlers — The pack he serves as engineering chief, keeping their stolen ship battle-ready.
Nessus — The stolen frigate he readies for the voyage to Venus.
