Winkle

Nihilistic, monster-tattooed Green cyber officer whose hacking blinds Deepgrave's defenses for the Howlers.

Story so far

Winkle is the lead cyber-operations officer of Darrow's Howlers, a sleepy-eyed, nihilistic Green who complains ceaselessly, snorts amphetamines, and loves digital monsters. On the Deepgrave raid he stays topside aboard the seasick crab trawler, jacked deep into the cyberscape through a back door Theodora's people planted in the Republic's Starhall mainframe—looping the sentinel submarines' sensors, spoofing the drone defense grid, and neutralizing the prison's scanners, gas nodes, and locks so the raiders slip through undetected. His access is a one-time key: Republic forensics will find and close the back door afterward, severing the Howlers from the information network—the hard price of reaching Venus.

Appearance

A Green with sleepy eyes and a face that is a pincushion of piercings and fashionable digital tattoos, acid-green gravity-defying hair, and a blue dragon tattoo slithering up his neck and chin.

Role

The Howlers' cyber-warfare officer; the hacker who blinds Deepgrave's defenses from the trawler above.

Relationships

Darrow — His commander, whose raid he enables by owning the prison's networks.
Theodora — The Starhall intelligence agent whose planted back door gives him his access.
Howlers — The pack he serves as lead cyber-operations officer.
Rhonna — The young lancer set to keep him off too many amphetamines topside.
