An emergency tracking implant Mensah bought, whose signal is dampened by the station security barrier.
Story so far
The fail-safe interface implant is an emergency device Dr. Mensah purchased in case of trouble, meant to let her be located and reached. After her abduction, the Company provided the Preservation team a key—disguised as a feed-accessible memory clip—to interface with it. But Gurathin determines, and Murderbot confirms, that the implant's signal is blocked: Mensah is held in the station torus above, behind TranRollinHyfa's main security barrier, whose dampening field defeats the key even for Murderbot, who can normally punch through where a human cannot.
Pin-Lee hands the key to Murderbot in the transit bubble; getting past the barrier that blocks it becomes the crux of the rescue.
Appearance
A small device disguised as a feed-accessible memory clip; the implant itself is embedded in Mensah.
