Story so far
Elise assembled her memory book from favorite pages taken from other books, carrying the heavy collection in a shoulder bag and adding colorful loose pages that were not yet sewn in. Its pictures helped her recognize a pig. A dog-meat seller tried to keep it as payment for her puppy, but she recovered the book and scattered pages after he was knocked down.
The collection preserves practical material on fishing, tracking animals, and raising sheep, alongside the images and information Elise favors about the green world, animals, the sun, and stars. She protects it during questioning. Shaw later carries it outside inside his suit, and the adults consult its maps when deciding where to go. At the camp, its stitched pages are consulted again as people try to identify an unfamiliar animal.
