Miles

Miles is Marcus’s surviving twin, grieving his brother while helping the group through the preparations to leave.

Story so far

Jimmy thought Miles was the twin listening through the concrete as the digger approached. Miles asked whether fairies were real, recalling strange noises at the farm where he grew up, and said knocking out Marcus’s tooth had been an accident. Elise remembered both boys wanting to keep a rat even when food was scarce.

Miles survived the confrontation in which Marcus died. Later he led Hannah and Rickson with a failing flashlight, hoping the newcomers would leave them alone as earlier adults had done, and wishing his brother were there. He subsequently celebrated the destruction of a server with Rickson. During the gathering for the escape discussion, he and Shaw checked the stairs and reported that only a few more people might arrive. Juliette’s father identifies Miles and Marcus as twins.
