Scotty is a member of the squatter-colonists' sabotage cell on Ilus, working alongside Basia Merton and the cell's leader Coop to plant barrel bombs beneath Royal Charter Energy's landing pad. Easygoing and irreverent, he smokes bathtub-grown cannabis and freeze-dried tobacco through the whole operation until Basia takes the lit pipe from his mouth and reminds him that explosives explode. He is the first to see the Edward Israel's shuttle dropping early ('Baz, oh shit!'), and when Coop refuses to let him help disarm the bombs, he defers.
He survives the blast, left sitting dazed on the ground beside the wounded Basia.
