The great generation ship — once Nauvoo, then Behemoth — now parked at the Ring as humanity's gateway and choke point to the thousand new worlds.
Medina Station is the vast rotating ship anchored inside the Ring's slow zone, the turnpike every vessel must pass to reach the new worlds. Begun as the Mormon generation ship Nauvoo (a refuge), commandeered into the warship Behemoth (a fortress), it is now Medina — a gathering place, its name (as Alex Kamal explains) the walkable heart of an old city. Fred Johnson governs it, quietly positioning it as the seat of a future League-of-Planets government and the hub for exploring the thousand gates.
Its rotating drum is being layered with transplanted soil for farms while prefab buildings rise; its old colonial administration building — once also home to Radio Free Slow Zone — is Fred's plant-filled office. To Holden, who watched people die there, it remains a graveyard.
Strategic setting; the Ring-space station that controls access to all the new worlds and seats Fred Johnson's OPA authority.
