Rod is an Iron-Tangle executive named only through Madison's bitter monologues: the corporation's Chief Financial Officer, based at the headquarters 'Yard A,' and Madison's ex-husband. She invokes him constantly — crediting him for approving her crueler cost-saving schemes ('Even Rod was impressed'), blaming her rival Doris for endangering him, and clinging to the belief that when everything collapses, 'Rod always comes.' When Carl abandons her at the fake station-60 settlement, her last defiant hope is that Rod, or transit security, will arrive to set things right. Like the rest of the Iron Tangle's NPC office culture, he is almost certainly a false-memory construct rather than a real presence, and never actually appears.
