The Hanging of Madison

the hanging · the NPC uprising

Word spread, the dwarves and the gremlins got angry, and they built a stand and a noose.

Story so far

The fourth floor's NPCs turn on each other while the crawlers are busy. According to Fire Brandy, Tizquick told her about his daughter, and once word spread the dwarves and the gremlins started to get angry — and they killed Madison, the human resources woman. They built a stand and a noose and hanged her, then brought the body to Brandy, who took it into the fire.

A few ManTauRs tried to fight the dwarves over it and were chased off; the mantaurs are the only ones still holding the faith, and Brandy warns there may be some out there. Carl's assessment of the whole business is the most unsettling thing in the chapter: Madison did not deserve it, but her character did — the NPCs are all playing parts, and only a handful are starting to realise it.

The NPC revolt that killed a manager and split the floor's remaining staff.
