The twenty-four crawler authors of previous cookbook editions, all of whom Carl accuses of failing.
In his note for the 25th edition of The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook, Carl addressed the twenty-four crawlers who had contributed before him. He credited none of them with the one thing that mattered: they had all failed in it. If they were really going to burn the place to the ground, they had to actually do it instead of just talking about it — which meant killing the ones running the game, not only the mobs and NPCs.
He admitted he didn't yet know how, but said he had an idea, and made his promise to himself, his friends, and every reader to come.
The lineage of crawler authors Carl inherits from and indicts in the same breath.
