Doris

Prax's steady, wry senior botanist colleague on Ganymede, who saves his life as the war begins.

Story so far

Dr. Doris Bourne is a fellow botanist and Prax's colleague at the Ganymede greenhouse. When the falling orbital mirror threatens their dome, it is Doris — clear-eyed and unsentimental — who counts down the minutes to impact and physically compels the paralyzed Prax into the descending lift, saving both their lives. As the shockwave blows out the shaft and confirms their life's work is gone, she shakes his hand at "the graveside of their previous lives," bidding him a weary, dignified farewell before urging them onward.

Appearance

An older botanist with thin white hair and wide lips prone to a weary amusement.

Role

Prax's veteran botanist colleague on Ganymede; the calm hand that pulls him to safety.

Relationships

Prax — Her research partner, whom she saves from his own paralysis as the dome is destroyed.
