A kindly ex-Marine gate guard at the UN complex who coaches the agoraphobic Bobbie through the open sky.
Chuck is a security guard at the Hague UN complex and a former UN Marine. When Bobbie Draper, a lifelong Martian, panics at her first exposure to Earth's open sky, Chuck patiently talks her through it — explaining offworlders' agoraphobia, coaching her to look at the ground and up to the horizon but never straight up, and holding the door in case she needs to retreat. His easy respect ("Semper fi, Gunny") wins her over and steadies her.
Earther-short with a compact, athletic frame; beautiful skin so dark it is almost blue; lovely gray eyes and an easy, mockery-free smile.
A friendly ex-Marine guard who eases Bobbie's first encounter with open sky.
